Editorial Policy
How we research, write, fact-check, and correct content on DebtShift
DebtShift covers debt, credit, and personal finance — topics where a wrong number can genuinely cost someone money or lead them to a bad decision. This page sets out exactly how we handle that responsibility: what we check before publishing, how AI fits into our process, and what happens when we get something wrong.
How We Research and Fact-Check
Every factual claim on this site — interest rates, statutory thresholds, legal timelines, tax rules, eligibility criteria — is checked against a current primary or authoritative source before publication. Depending on the topic, that means:
- UK content: GOV.UK, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Bank of England, HMRC, the Money and Pensions Service, StepChange, and National Debtline.
- US content: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Reserve, the IRS, the Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Courts, and the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).
- Credit reporting: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion’s own published scoring ranges and policies, checked directly rather than assumed to be unchanged from prior years — these details update periodically and older articles elsewhere on the web are a common source of stale figures.
Where a post or tool involves arithmetic — loan amortisation, interest cost comparisons, payoff timelines, the effect of an extra payment — we verify the calculation independently rather than relying on a single pass. If a number can’t be verified against a source we trust, we don’t publish it as fact.
Our Use of AI
We use AI tools to help draft, structure, and research content on this site. We’re saying that plainly rather than leaving it unstated, because we think a reader deserves to know how a piece of content came together.
AI-assisted drafting does not mean unreviewed publishing. Every article, tool description, and product page is reviewed and approved by Hamid Ali, DebtShift’s founder, before it goes live. That review includes checking that facts cited are accurate and current, that calculations are correct, that the advice reflects genuine best practice rather than a generic template, and that nothing reads as authoritative when it’s actually uncertain. AI speeds up research and drafting. It does not replace editorial judgment or fact-checking — both stay human, every time.
Corrections Policy
Financial rules, thresholds, and rates change — sometimes with no advance warning. When we identify an error, or a reader flags one, we correct the live page as soon as we’ve verified the correct figure, and note the update date at the bottom of the article where the change is material. We do not quietly bury corrections, and we do not leave known errors live because a page is performing well in search. If you’ve spotted something that looks outdated or wrong, tell us — see the contact details below.
Advertising and Product Disclosure
DebtShift is free to use and is supported by advertising and by our own digital products and DebtShift Pro subscription. We do not accept payment in exchange for favourable coverage, and no advertiser or affiliate relationship influences which tools we recommend or how we explain a topic. Where a post links to a DebtShift product, that link is clearly presented as a product, not disguised as independent advice.
What DebtShift Is — and Isn’t
DebtShift is an educational publisher and tools provider, operated by H Ali Logistics Ltd. We are not a debt management company, a claims management company, or a firm of financial or legal advisers, and we are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Nothing on this site is personalised financial, legal, or tax advice — it’s general education, built to help you understand your options before you seek regulated advice where that’s appropriate. For free, independent, regulated debt advice, we point every relevant page to StepChange (UK) or the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (US) — organisations with no commercial relationship to DebtShift.
Who’s Behind This
DebtShift’s content is founded, written, and reviewed by Hamid Ali, who holds an MSc in Accounting & Finance and is progressing through the ACCA qualification. Full background is on the author page.
