Hamid Ali
Founder, DebtShift · MSc Accounting & Finance

I started DebtShift because I kept seeing the same thing: people making genuinely reasonable decisions about their money and still ending up worse off, simply because nobody had ever explained the actual arithmetic to them. Minimum payments that never touch the balance. Savings sitting next to debt charging five times the interest they earn. A guarantor loan that seemed like helping a friend and turned into a legal liability nobody warned them about.
None of that is a discipline problem. It’s an information gap. DebtShift exists to close it — with free tools that show you your real numbers, and content that explains what’s actually happening to your money in plain English, not jargon.
Background
I hold an MSc in Accounting & Finance from the University of Northampton. Before DebtShift, my background was in finance and operations through H Ali Logistics Ltd, the company that now operates this site. DebtShift is an educational publisher, not a debt advice firm — I’m not a financial adviser, and nothing on this site is regulated financial advice. Where a situation calls for regulated advice, every relevant page on this site points to StepChange (UK) or the NFCC (US), both free and independent of DebtShift.
How I Approach Content on This Site
Every figure on DebtShift — interest rates, statutory thresholds, legal timelines, tax rules — is checked against a current primary source before it’s published: government sites (GOV.UK, IRS.gov, CFPB), regulators (FCA, Bank of England, Federal Reserve), and established consumer bodies (StepChange, National Debtline, NFCC). Where a post involves arithmetic — loan amortisation, interest cost comparisons, payoff timelines — I verify the maths independently rather than trusting a single calculation, and I’d rather delay a post than publish a number I haven’t checked.
I use AI tools to help draft and structure content on this site, and I say so plainly on the Editorial Policy page. Every piece is reviewed and approved by me before it goes live — AI drafting speeds up the process, it doesn’t replace the judgment or the fact-checking.
What I’ve Built
DebtShift runs 17 free calculators covering debt payoff, credit scores, statute-barred debt, bankruptcy and DRO eligibility, BNPL costs, savings versus debt trade-offs, and more — alongside educational guides across debt payoff strategy, credit building, UK and US debt relief options, and financial resilience. Every tool and every post carries the same standard: verified facts, plain language, and no pretending a complicated situation is simpler than it is.
Get in Touch
If you’ve spotted something that looks wrong on the site, or you just want to say hello, the fastest way to reach me is through the contact page. I read every message myself.
DebtShift is operated by H Ali Logistics Ltd and provides financial education and free tools for informational purposes only. This is not regulated financial advice. We are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. For free, independent debt advice contact StepChange (UK) or the NFCC (US).
