Zable Credit Card: What It Really Costs and What to Do If You Fall Behind
Every other card said no, so when Zable said yes it felt like a door opening. Then the first statement lands, the balance is £640, and nobody has told you what that 29.9% at the bottom turns into.
The numbers, in pounds
Zable publishes its rate, limit and fees on its own pages. Finder, a comparison site, reports the rest. Where the two sources differ, we used Zable. One broker listing showed a lower rate of 24.9%, so check the rate on your own offer before you accept.
| What | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Interest rate | 29.9% variable (representative APR, example of £1,200 borrowed) | Zable |
| Annual fee | £0 | Zable |
| Overseas usage fee | None | Zable |
| Starting credit limit | Up to £4,000, set individually | Zable |
| Late payment fee | £12 | Finder, April 2026 |
| Cash withdrawal | 3% fee, interest from day one | Finder, April 2026 |
| Interest-free period | Up to 35 days if you clear the statement balance | Finder, April 2026 |
A representative APR means at least half of the people accepted (51%) get that rate or better. The rest can be offered a higher one. Your offer is the number that counts.
£1,000 on the card, worked through
At 29.9% a year, £1,000 costs about £24.92 in interest in the first month. That is the part nobody sees until the statement.
Pay £100 a month and spend nothing new: the balance is gone in 12 months and the interest comes to about £165. Pay only the minimum: Finder says that is the greater of 2% of the balance plus interest and fees, or £5. On that rule, with no new spending, £1,000 takes about 142 months, nearly 12 years, and you pay back around £2,160. Roughly £1,160 of that is interest.
Our own illustration at a flat 29.9%. Your statement shows your real minimum.
Does it build your credit?
Zable says its cards are designed to help you build your credit score and that on-time payments can improve it. The reverse is also true: late or missed payments can damage it.
Think of it as a debit card with a delay. Spend only what you already have, pay the full statement balance, and the interest never starts. A credit-builder card is a loan with a price tag of 29.9%. If you cannot clear it each month, it works against you. Finder also reports that you must set up a continuous payment authority, which lets Zable collect payments from your bank card, so know how you would switch that off before you sign.

If you are already behind on other debts
Do not open a card to cover old debts. A balance here costs 29.9% a year, and a hard credit check can make the next application harder. Start with free, impartial advice from StepChange (0800 138 1111) or National Debtline (0808 808 4000). Our debt help guide lays out the routes in order.
If you miss a payment
Finder reports a £12 late fee, and Zable says missed or late payments can damage your credit score. Ring Zable before the due date, not after. A short call can sort a payment date. If you are thinking of stopping altogether, read what happens if you stop paying a debt first. If a collector starts chasing you, know your rights before you answer.
Who should think twice
Anyone with a county court judgment, because Finder lists that as a reason for refusal. Anyone who needs the card to cover rent or food, because that means a balance, and a balance means 29.9%. And anyone who cannot name the day they will clear it.
If you need to complain
Zable has a complaints page on its own site. If the reply does not settle it, our guide to taking a debt complaint to the ombudsman covers the next step.
Questions people ask
Is the Zable credit card legit?
Yes. Zable is a trading name of Lendable Ltd, which Zable says is authorised and regulated by the FCA (reference 720261). The card itself is issued by Transact Payments Limited under licence from Mastercard. You can check the FCA reference yourself on the FCA register.
Does the Zable card build your credit score?
It can, if you pay on time. Zable says its cards are designed to help you build your credit score, and that late or missed payments can damage it. The card only helps if you repay it, so set up a direct debit for at least the minimum.
What is the Zable credit limit?
Zable says initial limits are up to £4,000, set individually. Many people start well below that, so do not plan around the top figure.
Can I get a Zable card with bad credit?
Zable says it sets no minimum credit score and looks at your overall finances. It makes a hard credit check at the final application stage, which leaves a mark on your file. Finder lists a county court judgment (CCJ) as a reason for refusal.
What happens if I miss a Zable payment?
Finder reports a £12 late payment fee, and Zable says missed or late payments can damage your credit score. If you know you will miss one, contact Zable before the due date and get free advice from StepChange or National Debtline.
How do I complain about Zable?
Start with the complaints page on Zable’s own site. If you are not happy with the answer, our guide on taking a debt complaint to the ombudsman explains the next step.
